If you decide to travel with your pet, they’ve compiled the following tips for stress-free travel:
- Bring the Essentials: Be sure to pack your dog’s regular food (sudden changes in diet can cause stomach problems), water to prevent dehydration during the trip, and any medications your dog takes on a regular basis.
- Purchase/Bring a Crate: A crate is essential for both transport and maintaining control over your dog when in a strange environment. It may also offer them a sense of comfort and familiarity.
- Keep Your Dog Relaxed & Quiet: When traveling by plane or staying in a hotel or friend’s house, respect others by keeping your dog from excessive barking or whining. Give him/her a toy to stay occupied, and don’t leave him or her unattended in a strange place unless it’s absolutely necessary.
- Ensure You Have All Paperwork Necessary: Airlines require health certifications and proof of vaccinations before travel. If you don’t already have the paperwork, contact your vet.
Once you have everything in place for your trip, get ready to roll! Your dog will love joining you on vacation, and you may even have more fun by keeping your best friend with you.
